Amsterdam is renowned for its “coffee shops”. With roughly 250 in Amsterdam, it’s hard to find the best Amsterdam coffee shop.
UPDATED FEBRUARY 2020
In this directory you will find 15 of the most popular, famous and best coffeeshops in Amsterdam.
In The Netherlands the term coffee shop has come to mean alcohol-free establishments where cannabis (weed, hash, marijuana) are sold and consumed. According to the Dutch Drug and Coffee Shop Law the Amsterdam coffee shops are licensed to sell small quantities of cannabis to adults over 18.
Tourists can buy and enjoy weed, hash and marijuana in a pleasant and safe environment. Plans to introduce a so called “Weed-Pass”, intended to register Dutch smokers and exclude tourists, were dropped in 2012.
As for now, every person above 18 may enter a coffee shop. Your ID may be required to check your age.

Definitely the best = BOEREJONGENS, the new sloterdijk location is a must visit. I think beside the best menu this is the most beautiful and professional location I’ve ever seen.
Coffeeshop boerejongens nr 1 in amsterdam ?
Hello, This listing is su-per outdated.
Woul love to see a 2019 listing with the best shops in Amsterdam like Tweede Kamer included! My favorite!
The list is missing a lot of good coffeeshops like city hall, de kroon and rockland
Amsterdam is a famous cannabis tourist spot!
hi I am looking to travel to Amsterdam for my 32nd birthday this year.
wondering where is the best place to get our accommodation from and what is the best place to stay where we have a wide range of shopping centres, cafes and night life. any pointers please
Dont go in the centre but try east to stay, fun place, modern building and close to centre with shops. In east there are more nicer and quiet places where you can smoke outside. Im only 15 but I like to go out of the centre when smoking because its not so hectic and you won’t get in trouble or have and accident so fast. Somewhere around Rietlandpark is nice.
Before eat a space cake think twice and research about it. Because yesterday i ate a half piece and it hits me 2hours after. I felt the most terrible experience of my life with panic attack and paranoia effects!! I went to hospital because i am out of my mind unable to calm down.i Had high blood presure and i think i am going to die.. Please think twice before you take this
HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAH…..You made my day!
Pmsl woweeeeeee maybe you should stay at home
There are a couple of really good coffeeshops missing from your list, believe me we found out the hard way, we had a hotel in the center for just over two weeks, visited some of the places n your list, then we went for dinner a short walk out of the center and found coffeeshop Het Ballonnetje, they had the same menu selection as all of the most famous coffeeshops in Amsterdam, however they are a locals secret…
So next time we visit Amsterdam we are going to stay little bit out of the center and save a ton of money on hotels and weed. Dont make our mistake!
Awesome list. If anyone needs to see the menu or wanna know how to find their fave strain in Amsterdam then check out http://www.wheresmyweed.at
Visit Coffeeshop The Stud Best Coffeeshop 2018 Google It And you wil find out
Can you buy glass blunts in Amsterdam ????
Sure you can Coffeeshop THE STUD sels them for 1 euro a pack with 30 glas papers.. located in east of amsterdam molukkenstraat 581
This list is ridiculous. It leaves out boerenjongens chain of very good coffeeshops. They recently won 2014 best coffeeshop. I think including the shops outside of the city centre would be advantageous to the tourists coming here for the weed experience. Just a thought.
Kind Regards
An ex tourist.
Dear Andy,
Thx for sharing this with us!
Jan – AmsterdamTourist.info
I born in amsterdam and a smoker for over 20 years.. the best coffeeshop in holland is COFFEESHOP THE STUD for sure prices and Quality they have a assortiment you wil find in no other coffeeshop with real locals knowledge for over more than 200 years heheh They won 2015/2016/2018 Best Coffeeshop Award
Why is Best Friends not on this list? Best weed, best chill and the best service I’ve had in the Dam.
9 street district is lovely man.
Thanks for the tip!
