Amsterdam is known for its beers and Dutch spirits like ‘Jenever’ (gin). Of course you can taste beer and jenever in every Bar or Brown Café, but the special tasting Rooms (‘Proeflokalen’) have a large range of beers and spirits. Some beers and spirits are even brewed locally at the same place!

Brouwerij het IJ

This famous local brewery is located next to a windmill. You can directly enter the brewery from the tasting room and see the brew-kettles and barrels. Brouwerij het IJ is very popular by locals, especially during summertime when you can enjoy different beers on the terrace outside.
They offer guided tours: every Friday, Saturday & Sunday at 3:30 pm. Fee is € 4.50 per person (including 1 beer).

Brouwerij De Prael

Brouwerij de Prael is located in the heart of Amsterdam at the ‘Oudezijds Voorburgwal’ (red light district). This brewery started in 2002 and came with the idea of naming their beers after famous singers from Amsterdam. Visit the brewery and tasting room to enjoy a lovely local beer.

Heineken Experience

The former Heineken Brewery, where the beer was brewed for a 100 years, has been transformed into an interactive experience; a tour through the dynamic world of Heineken. It is a great experience to learn a bit more about the history of this famous brewery. And of course drink a Heineken Beer yourself at the end of the tour. Read more

In de Wildeman

In de Wildeman is a tasting room with 17 beers on draft and over 250 different bottled beers from  The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, USA and the UK. This tasting room is situated in a former Amsterdam distillery in the old city centre.

Arendsnest

Arendsnest is a beer tasting room serving Dutch beers. They have 30 beers on draft and 100 Dutch beers in total. This tasting room in Brown Café – style is located at the Canal Belt on the Herengracht. Besides beer they serve a large selection of wine, Jenever, and Single malt Whiskey.

Wynand Fockink

Dated 1679 Wynand Fockink’s tasting room is the oldest distillery and tasting room in Amsterdam. Inside this picturesque tasting room you will find a large selection of Old Dutch liqueurs and jenevers. Every Saturday at 12.30 pm there is an English spoken guided tour. You do not need to subscribe for this tour but make sure you are on time as full is full.

De Admiraal – Distillery de Ooievaar

“A.van Wees distillery de Ooievaar” is the last one of authentic distilleries in Amsterdam. You can taste their specialties like Old Dutch Jenevers and liquors in tasting room ‘De Admiraal’. This tasting room is located at the Canal Belt and is one of the most beautiful decorated tasting rooms in Amsterdam with distillery kettles, old distillery tools and wooden barrels.

Reypenaer Cheese tasting room

If you are more a kind of foodie you can visit the Reypenaer Cheese tasting room. Besides beer and jenever, the Dutch are also famous about their cheese. You can personally taste the flavor and qualities of the Reypenaer cheeses having a historic ripening process, unique in the Netherlands. Every cheese tasting session lasts roughly one hour and caters for a maximum of 20 people per tasting.
