These classy and spacious cafés are, as the Brown cafés, typical for the Amsterdam café culture. Grand cafés serve a larger choice of quality food and are great spots to relax a few hours during the day. In almost every Grand café you will find a reading table offering newspapers and magazines. Grand Cafés are like restaurants regarding the food they are offering, but you can also go there for a drink.
Café Americian
Café Americain is housed in the famous ‘American Hotel’ located on Leidseplein. The cafe is the oldest Grand café in The Netherlands. It has beautiful Art Nouveau interior and large stained-glass windows. Café Americain is the ideal meeting place right in the heart of Amsterdam. The café also has an antique reading table with a decent selection of newspapers and magazines.

Café De Jaren
This light and spacious Grand Café has two floors and a great outside terrace overlooking the river Amstel. Café De Jaren is one of the favorite meeting places for locals. Visitors are mainly younger people. The café has a modern interior with a tiled mosaic floor, modern art and is situated in a former bank building. They offer free Wi-Fi and also has a reading table with Dutch as well as English newspapers and magazines.

Kitchen & Bar Van Rijn
Kitchen & Bar Van Rijn is located on the Rembrandt Square in Amsterdam and opened its doors in 2012. Inspired by the beauty and the masterpieces of Rembrandt van Rijn, guests can enjoy authentic Dutch cuisine in a cosmopolitan atmosphere with open kitchen and a large bar. At weekends they have a DJ and play live music as well.

De Kroon
Café De Kroon is situated on the second floor of a large building and has a large glassed-in balcony terrace with a beautiful view over the Rembrandtplein. The interior style is a mixture of old and new: chandeliers, large mirrors, antique decorations, Louis XVI furniture and a wall full of LCD TV with paintings and fireplaces.

L’Opera
Grand Café L’Opera is located on the Rembrandtplein in a monumental building which is called ´Het Gouden Hoofd´ (the golden head) and has an Art Deco interior. You can enjoy your lunch, dinner or just a drink on the indoor or outdoor terrace with a great view on the square, lovely during summertime. The prices are reasonable for the location.
