Oud West – Melting Pot
The Oud-West (Old West) area is located west of the Vondelpark and is bordered in the east by the waters of Kostverlorenvaart. Oud-West is a vibrant multicultural area, counting more than 170 nationalities. Remarkable for this area is that people from various circles live together in harmony. In addition, 2 busy shopping streets (Overtoom en Kinkerstraat) surrounded by quiet residential areas. Market & Organic Food
The Ten Katestraat market is a very busy street market and is organized six days a week (Monday – Saturday). Vendors sell clothing, bicycle accessories, fish, meat, cheese, vegetables, flowers and more. On Overtoom you will also find an organic supermarket ‘Marqt’ with all kinds of lovely, healthy products. This is really the place to be for slow food lovers.
Hollandsche Manege
The ‘Hollandsche Manege’ situated on the Overtoom in Oud West is inspired by the Spanish Riding School in Vienna and constructed in 1882. The building has been declared as a national monument (rijksmonument). It is the oldest riding school in the Netherlands.

Birth Corner
The Bosboom Toussaintstraat is popularly known as “birth corner”. Besides a nursery and midwifery practice in this street there are also many shops especially for pregnant women and children (clothes, toys, books). Even the cafes and restaurants in this area, like ‘Café Toussaint’ and Italian restaurant ‘De Italiaan” offer great food with a special focus on pregnant women.
